Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia: Then and Next
Tuesday, December 5, 2017 8:00 AM - 6:30 PM
The divisions of Pediatric Pulmonology, Neonatology, and Radiology look forward to hosting you on December 5th 2017 at Stanford University for a symposium, Brochopulmonary Dysplasia: Then and Next, honoring the past and considering the future of neonatal and child lung health.
Fifty years ago, a landmark paper appeared in the New England Journal of Medicine, entitled “Pulmonary Disease Following Respirator Therapy of Hyaline Membrane Disease: Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia.” In the article, Dr. William Northway, MD, a radiologist at Stanford University, and colleagues outlined a characteristic and progressive pattern of lung injury in mechanically ventilated preterm infants. In the field of neonatal medicine, and arguably in all of pediatrics, no paper has exerted a more powerful and durable influence. As we recognize the anniversary of this remarkable paper, we are convening a symposium to better understand the past and current state of neonatalogy and pulmonology so we can all be better positioned to shape its future.
